Video: CARCASS's BILL STEER Rejoins NAPALM DEATH On Stage In Stockholm
November 12, 2015CARCASS guitarist Bill Steer rejoined his former bandmates in NAPALM DEATH for the first time since 1988 on November 9 at Fryshuset in Stockholm, Sweden to perform the classic NAPALM DEATH song "Deceiver". Fan-filmed video footage of his appearance can be seen below.
"Deceiver" originally appeared on the B-side of NAPALM DEATH's debut album, "Scum", which was released in July 1987 through Earache Records.
Asked how he came to join NAPALM DEATH, Steer told Decibel magazine: "I'd been playing with this punk/metal band or something — it was like a really weak version of DISCHARGE. One day [a friend] showed up and said, 'You're not playing that tour; some band called NAPALM DEATH's got it.' And I [was] thinking, 'I wonder who they are?' A bit later, a friend of mine who lived somewhere in the midlands got to know them and then he sent me what rurned out to be Side A of 'Scum'. And that point, I just thought it was fantastic. And it was really good when I saw it. To me, it was really obviously something that stood out in that scene. Mostly because there was nobody like Mick [Harris, drums] in that world."
Added former NAPALM DEATH drummer Mick Harris: "Come February of '87, I ended up asking Bill Steer [to join], who at that time had just started university and had got CARCASS together. I went down to Liverpool twice to rehearse at his house. The CARCASS drum kit was there. He was only 16 and his parents didn't want him coming up to Birmingham. So I went down and he picked the songs up in no time. I said, 'I'm gonna have to get you to Birmingham, Bill, because obviously we're gonna have to record this B-side.'"
CARCASS is currently taking part in the "Deathcrusher 2015" European tour with NAPALM DEATH, VOIVOD and OBITUARY.
